OVERVIEW

MACHU PICCHU INFORMATION:

Machupicchu is a trip to the serenity of the soul, to the eternal fusion with the cosmos; where we feel our fragility. It is one of the greatest marvels of south america. A resting place of butterflies in the epicenter of the great circle of life.

Located 120 km northwest of cusco, the inca city of Machu Picchu lay hidden from the world in dense jungle covered mountains until 1911. This ‘lost city’ is one of the world’s archaeological jewels and is one of South America’s major travel destinations.

The well preserved archaeological place of Machu picchu seem to almost cling to the steep hillside, surrounded by towering green mountains overlooking the Huillca Mayu river. Even after having seen the classic photos of Machu picchu in guide books, web sites and postcards you still cannot fail but to be impressed by the awe-inspiring location of the archaeological place.

As you can see in the map above the main way of getting to Machu picchu is by bus along a steep, narrow zigzagging dirt track from Aguas Calientes. Regular buses run this route throughout the day with a journey time of about 25-30 minutes. For the really fit and adventurous the only other way of getting to Machu picchu is on foot either along the classic 4-day inca trail starting at km82, Salkantay optional trail 5 days, or along the shorter 2-day inca trail starting at km104.

Aguas Calientes to the outside world and there is no airport. Aguas Calientes can only be reached by train from Ollantaytambo or Poroy.

So if you are planning a trip to machu picchu then the best place to start your journey is from the city of Cusco, the Historic Capital of the incas located about 120km to the south-east. Cusco is a beautiful and fascinating city and a great place to base yourself for a few days the other better choice to start your journey is also from the Sacred valley of the incas (Urubamba – Ollantaytambo) very nice places to stay and short trip to Machupicchu.

How to get to Machupicchu from cusco or Sacred Valley of the incas to Aguas Calientes by train ?(most popular option).

ITINERARY

Program Itinerary

This tour would be the best option if you are still interested in exploring the Andes and the luscious green landscape around Aguas Calientes. By doing this package, you are not in a rush but instead you will have plenty of time to visit the hot springs at Aguas calientes village. Take the opportunity to explore Putucusi Mountain where few people can go for 1 hour to climb from the village, or instead you can go to Mandor flowers garden and the amazing waterfall. or simply just have relaxing time in the new seven wonder of the world  Machupicchu. Remember, this might be just once in a lifetime experience so you deserve to enjoy it!

Day 1.- Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes Town.

we will pick you up at early morning from your hotel to take you to the train station (time will be confirmed). It might be from Ollantaytambo Train Station 1:30 minutes from Cusco city this is depending on the train company; either way the train drive is breathtaking with very comfortable seats. During the trip, you will enjoy many glacier peaks, green lush valleys and many Inca farming terraces in both sites of the valley. Moreover, you will see from the train one of the many Inca ruins and the km 82 where Inca classic trail begins. Little by little, you will enter to the jungle and Aguas Calientes (2000 meters high above sea level) where our representative will pick you up and take you to the hotel, then you will have free afternoon where you can organize some activities such as visit to the hot springs, Mandor Gardens or waterfalls. Lunch and dinner will be at the restaurant.

Day 2.- Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco.

After early breakfast at hotel you will take bus to the Machu Picchu  which only takes 30 minutes and departs every 10 minutes. Or if you don’t want to take the bus and prefer to hike along the Inca trail just let your guide know so that he can show you the Inca trail to Machu Picchu which takes you about 1:20 minutes approx. In  Machupicchu you will meet your group where you will have 2 hours guided tour then will have extra time to explore the inca city  by yourself. If on the other hand you want to see Huaynapicchu you can climb or you can go to the most famous spot of Machupicchu. The sun gate is 1 hour climb or if you simply want to get postcard pictures of Machu Picchu , by all means do so. We encourage all the travelers to make the most of their time in this place. There are options that you can take to Aguas Calientes either by bus or walking through famous inca trail to Aguas Calientes to take the train to Ollantaytambo at 04:12 in the afternoon, then bus to Cusco city for 2 hours approx. Our final destination will be San Francisco  plaza.

NOTE:

To climb to the sun gate you don’t need to get any ticket, it’s for every one because the trail is not as steep as Huaynapicchu, the view is of course as beautiful as the other one which takes you 1 hour walking.

The other options would be to walk up to the Inca Bridge where you can get panoramic view of Machupicchu ruins which takes you 45 minutes. This place was built by the Incas to connect places and mountains such as Vilcabamba and Llactapata.
